GLEN ALLEN, VA -- Rose Brown, retired Lieutenant Colonel, 29th Infantry Division, Virginia Army National Guard (VaARNG) was recently elected commander of Glen Allen VFW, Post 10657. A first for the Glen Allen Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) community, retired Lieutenant Colonel Rose Brown assumed its leadership as first female commander.

Inspired by the legacy of former Post Commander Frederick "Fritz" Eley, Commander Brown's goal is expansion of VFW's presence into its surrounding civilian communities.

While VFW's national focus is support of those who served in foreign wars and their families, the Glen Allen Post has partnered with the Virginia Military Vehicles Association (VMVA) to further its presence into surrounding civilian communities. As a result, VFW and VMVA frequently host 'hands on' exposure of military vehicles and other artifacts. For details of national activities visit web site www.vfw.org and Post 10657, visit www.vfwpost10657.us.

Acquiring recognition as a '1st female' is not a new experience for Commander Rose Perez Brown. She is the first female cadet to earn her airborne wings at Fort Benning, GA. At the end of her career, Brown served in the VaARNG Joint Operation Center as a shift leader in Operation Jump Start during the border patrol crises in 2006 and then deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina as the Force Structure Advisor under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) from 2006 to 2008.
